The SCIENCE CLUB of Mohan Babu University organized a poster presentation titled “Tattoo Chemistry – Colourants and Concerns” on 4th December -2024 from 10 A.M to 11 A.M. The main objective of the session was to explore the science behind tattoos, their historical significance, Chemical composition, and associated health concerns.
The event was conducted under the guidance and the support of the event Coordinator Dr. G. Muni Hemlata whose expertise and dedication ensured a fruitful learning experience for all participants. The presentation was delivered by K. Annie, student of B.Sc. Microbiology, I Semester, Mohan Babu University. The session sparked lively discussions on the purpose of tattoos, Components and pigments in tattoo inks, the skin layers involved in tattooing, common infections and health risks caused by tattoos. Historically, tattoos served various purposes, such as protection for pregnant women and as a means to smuggle secrets during wars. Tattoos have been a symbol of art, protection, and communication across cultures and centuries. Their use in ancient societies reflects deep cultural and societal significance. It provided an insightful exploration of the science behind tattoos.
The session was attended by an engaged audience from diverse disciplines, making it an interactive and educational event. More than 50 students attended the session. Their participation highlighted their higher enthusiasm acquiring knowledge
The event was both informative and engaging, enriching students’ understanding of the chemistry, history, and health concerns associated with tattoos. Participants gained valuable knowledge and left with a deeper appreciation of this ancient art form and its scientific underpinnings.
