The CAMS – Creative Association of Mechanical Engineering Students Club, Mohan Babu University organized the “Just A Minute(JAM)” event on 6th February 2025 at 3:00 PM in the APSSDC Lab. This engaging and intellectually stimulating event aimed to refine the communication, spontaneity, and quick-thinking skills of first-year Mechanical Engineering students. By challenging participants to speak on a given topic for precisely one minute, the event encouraged confidence, fluency, and clarity in verbal expression. The primary goal of the JAM competition was to enhance participants’ ability to think on their feet while speaking fluently and coherently on various topics.
The Session was organized under the expert guidance of Faculty Advisor Dr. K. Lakshmi kala. A total of 25 students enthusiastically took part in the competition, showcasing their ability to think quickly and communicate effectively. The topics varied from technical concepts to general knowledge and creative themes, ensuring a dynamic and engaging experience for both the participants and the audience.
The event commenced with a brief introductory speech by the faculty coordinator, Dr. K. Lakshmi Kala, who emphasized the importance of effective communication in technical and professional fields. The event focused on the following key aspects: Boosting students’ confidence in public speaking, encouraging spontaneous thinking and articulation, developing effective communication skills essential for professional and personal growth, fostering an environment where students could express their opinions with clarity and precision. Following the introduction, the student coordinators, Mr. Muzhamil and Mr. Sasidhar (IV Year, ME), explained the rules and structure of the competition. Each participant was given a topic on the spot and had exactly one minute to present their thoughts without hesitation, repetition, or deviation. Participants were challenged to think instantly and respond eloquently. Ranging from engineering-related subjects to everyday life issues, the topics tested students’ versatility. The interactive nature of the event kept the audience captivated throughout the session. Judges provided insightful feedback to help students refine their speaking skills.
The JAM event proved to be a resounding success, effectively achieving its intended objectives. Participants left the session with renewed confidence, improved articulation, and a better understanding of structured thinking. The event provided a platform for students to overcome their stage fear and develop essential communication skills that would benefit them in their academic and professional pursuits.
CAMS extends its heartfelt gratitude to Dr. K. Lakshmi Kala for her guidance and support in making this event a success. Special appreciation is also extended to the student coordinators, Mr. Muzammil and Mr. Sasidhar, for their dedicated efforts in organizing and managing the event. Finally, sincere thanks to all the participants who made this event lively and intellectually enriching.
