The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Mohan Babu University (MBU), in collaboration with the IV B. Tech ECE and EIE students, actively participated in the cleanliness campaign Swachhata Hi-Seva by organizing a community service activity on 25th January 2025. The event took place at the historic Agastheeswara Temple, Mukkoti, located near Chandragiri. The initiative aimed to promote cleanliness, raise awareness about sanitation, and preserve the cultural and historical significance of this revered site.
The activity saw enthusiastic participation from over 150 NSS volunteers, faculty members, and local community members, all united by their shared commitment to creating a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable environment. The program began with an inspiring inaugural speech by the NSS Coordinator, who underscored the importance of cleanliness as a foundation for physical health, environmental sustainability, and cultural preservation. He encouraged participants to embrace the Swachh Bharat vision and emphasized the need to carry forward this message as responsible citizens.
Equipped with cleaning tools, gloves, and eco-friendly supplies, the volunteers were divided into teams for the systematic execution of the cleanliness drive. Their efforts were focused on key areas, including the temple premises, surrounding pathways, and adjacent water bodies. The volunteers meticulously cleared litter, removed plastic waste, and weeded out overgrown vegetation, restoring the serene beauty of the temple environment. Particular attention was given to waste segregation, with volunteers separating biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste to ensure proper disposal. This effort not only beautified the temple surroundings but also set an example for effective waste management practices.
The cleanliness drive also included an awareness campaign to engage the devotees and local community members. NSS volunteers distributed informational pamphlets, conducted interactive sessions, and encouraged the use of eco-friendly materials. They emphasized the harmful effects of single-use plastics and urged participants to adopt sustainable practices in their daily lives. The awareness drive reinforced the importance of preserving the environment while safeguarding the sanctity of heritage sites like the Agastheeswara Temple.
